I'd like to take the time to put a disclaimer in the headline of this piece, but I'm far too opinionated for that. Plus disclaimers are lame, like a certain "vegetable thins baked snack cracker". I don't want to mention any names, but the manufacturer rhymes with Nabisco. They're terribly lame. And nearly flavorless.
A shooting happened on Granby St. in the downtown section of Norfolk, VA at a venue called the Granby Theater.
Now, if you've spent a great deal of time in Norfolk, then it really isn't that big of a surprise. But if you followed the media panic of the event in question, you might be worried that your job is in jeopardy because of that particular venue's closing, that there is going to be a decline in the redevelopment projects that are currently underway downtown, or you may just be shocked to hear that there is such a thing as black-on-black crimes.
Whichever of these most-likely-of-scenarios best fits you, just remember to think about one thing: There is always TWO SIDES TO A STORY!
Media makes it easy to turn these everyday occurrences (That's right! A Malicious Crime is an everyday occurrence. People die everyday...and not just because of smoking while you chew gum...or Nutra-Sweet...or Hot Dog Consumption...or getting stuck with an AIDS infected needle while trying to gas your car up...which might actually not be so bad. At this point, I'm starting to wish a life of immobility vs. filling up my gas tank one more time. I guess I'll just blame the War on Terror) into major upheaval.
So what is the answer? More Police action? Not according to Vice-Mayor Anthony Burfoot. He so eloquently quotes, "The police cannot solve this problem".
Thank you Vice-Mayor.
Flanked by his religious and political entourage (Representatives from both the Nation of Islam and Coalition of Young Black Professionals), he maintains that the answer to black-on-black crimes (which was the real issue, in his stated opinion) is..."political and religious leaders to start a dialogue on the communities needs." How convenient.
I think my favorite part of this particular article is another gem by Mr. Burfoot:
"'Any establishment that wants to try to attract the type of crowd that was at that establishment last night, then they need to understand that we will shut them down. And they can come to me if they want to say that it's a racial issue. I'll fight that battle,' said Burfoot, who is black."
I'm glad that they mentioned he was black, because the crowd that was holding the event at the Theater was predominantly black! For a second, I thought racial tensions were going to fly! Thank God that newspaper put in that little disclaimer, eh?
I think the dialogue to the community, he so lovingly speaks of, has been opened and I, for one, would love the opportunity to contribute to the conversation.

Learn how to dress, brush your grill, and take a bath. I'm so ticked there will be no more "Euro" night's at Premier. We should open a club called Gangstas Welcome encourage all felons and gun carriers in the doors lock them up and let a failedgeneration end it's self.

I found this a bit disjointed.
You seem to possess, in spite of your username, an above average intelligence.
But in the admittedly few pieces I've read which you authored, there is a consistent lack of cohesion.
