This is my version of the raft of the medusa, the original by Gericault.
It's a mural, made of 12 different versions of compressed charcoal on paper.
Thanks Red, for helping me remember I actually had a photo of this
My gallery opens tommorow.
I'm terrified.

Je travaille comme sauveteur (que les fin de semaines en hiver, mais 7 jours semaine l'ete) et je vais a l'ecole de le reste de mon temps. c'est pas compliquer, Alain.

and the sleeve fits...it's because the picture above is meant to be more blur and the shadow of the back and arm connect with no line to seperate them, giving the impression the sleeve is larger when it isn't.
apparently, our local know-all friend couldn't figure that out

no you silly tit, what I meant was that where the gap between that tile and the one below is.....where the guy in the pics sleeve is.....doesn't go...it looks as if you've messed up and done the sleeve to wide in that tile or too thin in the one below.

I'm still an admirer of his works, and I actually named an ill-fated steamer after him in my latest entry.
All that aside, though, the mosaic is very well-done. Having studied the original, I can see how much work must have gone into preserving many of the smaller details, which remain as true here as they do for Gericault's version. Nice.

I'm at odds with Gericault right now, but only because I wrote a disastrous paper over his perfectionist's plight in trying to paint a scene from the race of the Barberi horses. I then had to read a lot about The Raft of the Medusa, despite it not contributing so much as a word to the final product.
Whatevs.

Regardless of his perfectionist ideals, I am a big fan of gericault. I have, however, been fortunate enough (as an art student) to make my way to the louvre and marvel at some of his greatest works. The raft of the medusa is stunning in real life, hence why I decided to rectreate it in my own, smaller verion (the original has to be atleast 20 x 30 feet)... If ever you have a chance and get to France, an authentic Gericault is a good stop to make.
