Here are a couple clips of my new band playing some ETS tunes at our first gig together. I'm the one on the far right with the amber-colored guitar. Sorry for the low light. The sound is ok though.

Pretty fucking good.

I like what I've heard so far. Don't listen to Shlongy- Emerson, Lake, and Palmer rule.

Do you guys have a cd yet?

Invest in a tripod and a camera with a decent mike. Even if all the reds and blacks make people think they might be watching video of a colonoscopy the swaying lights won't make them puke and they can enjoy the music. Still, +2 for going against the Uber standard and doing and not just talking.

---------------

We definitely need another camera. It's not the fault of the camerawoman, who is a beautiful, supportive wife, and is usually very satisfactory in her camerawork when there are actually things to be seen.

Unfortunately, the camera was a standard Canon Powershot made for taking photos, not video. It's one of those cameras that, "hey!, you can even take 10 minutes of video!" as a selling point. And the lighting scheme was horrific. Even the people who were there couldn't see us because some idiot put all the lights behind the band and not a single one in front of us. It was a conspiracy really...to keep us down so that we didn't get seen or heard properly, so that we wouldn't become famous rock musicians, so I couldn't eventually spread a subversive message about taking down our government through my music to all ages and creeds.

But it could have been that it was just a cobbled-together production at a river camp and the other band that set up the equipment didn't know any better. I forgive them.

"James Dean Von Santos" started out kinda suspect, but kicked in well. It was okay.

"Ecclesiastes" ruled my fucking face off. I immediately demand a studio recording of that tune.

------------------

I agree, the whole JDVS song was suspect. Like I said, it was only the 3rd time we'd played it. As for, "Ecclesiastes"...there is a studio recording of it, although it's a rough demo mix and is not mastered or anything. It's on my site under the name "Good Question". It was a preliminary working title. "What's the name of this song, I've gotta call the file something..." "Hmmm, Good Question..." "K, g.o.o.d.q.u.e.st.i.o.n."

http://www.electrictoothsyndrome.com/songs/goodquestion.mp3

I suggest cranking this version up and turning up your treble. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to actually finishing it.

that 'match yourself to a presidential candidate' link has been around forever. you just finally found it because you decided to involve yourself in some miniscule way instead of just complaining about shit. i only bother mentioning that because you so enjoy telling people you already knew whatever it is that they told you. well, i already knew about that.

but here's mine anyway, just for the record:

Barack Obama - nyynyyynynny - 7
Hillary Clinton - nyynyyynynny - 7
John Edwards - nyynnyynynny - 5
Bill Richardson - nyynnyynnnny - 3
Dennis Kucinich - nyynnynyynyn - 3
Ron Paul - nynnnnnynnyy - 1
Mike Huckabee - yynyynynnyny - -1
Mitt Romney - yynyynynnyny - -1
John McCain - yynyyyynnyny - -3
Rudy Giuliani - ynnnyyyynyny - -5

+2 for the songs.
-2M for the shit video.

Gregorian Chant? Lungish, you into music history/do you play anything?

-----------------

I don't know maybe he was alive in the early 90's when they released like 10 CD's of gregorian chant. Everything from Gregorian chant classics, to Gregorian christmas and Gregorian Block Party Jams.

I made up the last one.

Rad, you can try to convert like HBTS suggested, or just download VLC Media Player: http://www.videolan.org/ (click download on the right)

It will play just about every type of video and audio file you can throw at it, including flash, avi, mpeg, mov, DVD, SVCD, mp3, wav, mp4, raw audio and video, etc.

Thanks.

If you think that first one sounded like Maiden, wait till I get a real camera and film the next show... Some of the songs we play sound like they came right out of Steve Harris's songbook.

Interesting that you picked up on the Weezer influence in the second one. That's exactly what I was going for when I wrote it. You can really hear the influence on the studio recording of that one...lots of feedback.

========

No bother fella.

Yeah, the first one, I think it was probably to do with the chant bit, reminded me a lot of 'Remember Tomorrow'.

I've been a big Weezer fan ever since I heard Pinkerton (one of the finest albums ever released) so I really enjoy anything that sounds a little bit like them.

Would be interested to hear studio stuff if it's knocking about online. You have a website no?

I like the second one much better than the first. Is that you doing the solos?

------------------

Yes, that's me doing the solos and the vocals.

That was only the 3rd time we'd ever played that second song. Twice in practice, then at the gig. It was a last minute inclusion due to the loss of a couple songs from our playlist due to a no-show band-member. It wouldn't have been my first choice of one to film, but that's how it worked out.

FA did the filming on a Canon Powershot camera that wasn't really designed for video, and with only 1 gb of memory, this is all she could get of the hour long set.

That wouldn't. Who was singing? Was it you? Was the singer having a hard time hearing? Is that what you mean by the stage monitors sounded like shit? I don't actually know what a stage monitor is or what it does. I'm just curious is all.

I should probably add that overall, I thought you guys sounded pretty good and I didn't want to gouge my eyes out listening to your music, so that's pretty sweet.

That's a shame, this site needs feedback.

--------
You know, I always feel so... pretentious when I leave feedback. Like I mean, the basic level is that I know what I like reading. How much of that is personal preference and taste, and how much of it is based on writing? Plus, I have no credentials and no knowledge to actually base anything on. I don't write, I haven't studied literature, I haven't taken any courses on writing, nothing of the sort.

Sweet. Just a little introspective... intraspective? Introspective moment for you and everyone there. Which incidentally has nothing to do with this post. Awesome.

Haha, yeah, school and stuff's been keepin me busy. Good times, good times. Mostly though I just don't bother reviewing anything I read.

---------

That's a shame, this site needs feedback.

P.S.

The singer is awful.

-------------

The stage monitors sounded like absolute shit. That didn't help matters.

I listened/watched the first one and liked it quite a lot. That Gregorian (probably not the correct term) gets me every time.

Gregorian Chant? Lungish, you into music history/do you play anything?

It was good. I was worried in the beginning, though. Now post the Johnny Cash song.

I listened/watched the first one and liked it quite a lot. That Gregorian (probably not the correct term) gets me every time. I believe the Yardbirds were the first to do that in a rock song. As always, I could be wrong. But I love the Yardbirds.

Hopefully constructive criticism: I would have like to have heard the bass do something a little more interesting during the guitar duet.

And now to watch the second one.

I'd love it if I could see this without a flash player.

Heh...so much for the bold reviews.

Our lives are in the hands of men no smarter than you or I. Many of
them incompetent boobs. I know this because I've worked alongside
them, gone bowling with them, watched them pass me over for promotions
time and again and I say this stinks.
