It's been a good three weeks since I've seen a normal human face. A face that has looked back at me with life in it's eyes, with genuine human warmth. It's a little hard to describe, warmth, but it's there and you know it when you see it. You feel warmth. It's been a good three weeks of only seeing those stony, hungry faces starting blankly at me with that strange intent.
The best fuckin three weeks of my whole entire life.
Today is Shotgun Tuesday.
You should see what a shotgun can do to a human head at close range. I'd describe it to you, but I couldn't do it justice. It's just something you have to see. All I can think of is that line in some movie I saw back in the old world, where some soldier says in wonderment:
"Man you see that head come apart?"
I've got the van all modded out with plates all over, blades stuck here and there, and a big, very fuck off plate on the front. Sometimes I put some Pantera on the stereo at louder than god and go slaloming through town.
My only worry at this point is one day ill run out of them.
One day they're all gonna be gone, and I'll have no-one to murder. Well, not that it's murder, but that word just sounds badass, don't you think?
Tomorrow is Wednesday. Hump Day. I hate that expression. I don't have a hump in my week, it's always Sunday, and I get to do whatever I want. Wednesday, though, is usually maintenance day. I hole up in my compound.
I have a compound, by the way. A fuckin COMPOUND!
I hole up, lock the gates, set the alarms and repair shit, sharpen other shit, reload the rest. It's usually on this day, when I'm quiet and busy getting ready I hear the screams and shouts of whoever's left out there. They don't often last long, and it makes me stop and wonder.
I mean seriously, how can you not have your shit sorted out by now? It's been months. It took me maybe a couple days to find somewhere reasonable to hide and secure and let's face it: they're not exactly geniuses, and it's not like they're hard to avoid.
Still, can't complain. One less of them means one more for me.
It's been three weeks since I last saw a human face, warmth in it's eyes. The days seem to fly by now. That woman looked at me with so much hope in her face, and I could actually see the relief in her whole body and it coursed through her. I guess i should stopped for her.
But its not every day you see a bunch of 'em all grouped up like tenpins. I mean literally in a phalanx, like ten pins sitting in an alley. Who could resist that? As I hit em I imagined that sound you heard back in the old world in the alleys.
When I turned back for her, she was gone. How hard is it to stand still?
Anyway, the screams. It kinda annoys me, I mean aside from the total lack of preparedness, surely it's not hard to work out that if you make noise, you'll attract stuff. But thankfully they never do last long, and there's always that little silver lining.
One day, though, one day they will run out, and then what will I do?
Today is Shotgun Tuesday. Back in the old world, I'd be at lunchbreak about now. No time now, though, so much to do, so much to do.
Reload the gun. Man, you see that fuckin head come apart?
I probably should have stopped for that woman. I mean, it wasn't really even worth it, I got a 7-10 split. Kinda irritated me. Not gonna get a shot like that again, and I didn't execute like I should have. Sloppy, sloppy. I probably should have stopped. Seeing her head hit the ground and the face staring back up at me with a look in her eyes like thankyou was strange. Like it was kinda my fault.
Still, I 'spose not every day can be Christmas.
Holy fuckin shit. There's another group in the road, all bunched up. All bunched up. All bunched up in a phalanx begging for the ball to slam into them. Here it is, the chance to fix it up. I knew I did something wrong that day. 7-10. A fuckin 7-10. Never can recover those, just gotta take the nine and be done with it.
Something familiar though, 'bout that one near the front, the number three pin.
STRIKE.
The three best damn weeks of my whole entire life.

I do like the fact that this guy is out there kicking ass instead of sitting in a corner scribbling his emo thoughts and memories in some lame ass journal like every other dystopia story.

Big fan of zombies, apocalypses and the like. This one gave off a nice atmosphere, too.

i saw 28-days later last night, and like all zombie films, all i could think of was how awesome life would be if there were zombies. i mean i already have several places picked out to use as fortresses
---------
That's how I reacted when I first read Tomorrow, When The War Began.

I thought about giving this a 1 because i saw a few typos, but, seriously, this is what we all imagine our lives would be like if zombies really did take over, and it was fun to read.

Yeah, you probably could have made this more bad ass. But, I thought it was a cool idea, and laughed a few times.
I'm pretty sure you said you're going to do another story like this, with more effort.
I would read that.

I've thought a lot about what I would do, should zombies attack. It includes a shotgun, two badgers and a combine. Wish I were kidding.

I guess I'll give this a one since it made me smile.
I think that psychologically you might not be that far off.
Most people get bothered by countless little things, but if something truly horrific
happens, then at least a significant minority of people are able to adjust to whatever
needs to be done to survive, including not being phased by things that previously
would have really disturbed them.

no thats fine, im at work and just trying to get myself in a writing mood. this is warming up to get in shape for writing an adequate briefing for the concept artist. which is not to say im awesome and that i can do heaps better, but this is a first draft doodle of a silly idea. my point being, dont go expecting too much.
its not much, and generally my stories i write for fun dont have much. im not interested in beginning-middle-end, but rather in the thoughts of people in given situations. i saw 28-days later last night, and like all zombie films, all i could think of was how awesome life would be if there were zombies. i mean i already have several places picked out to use as fortresses.
i guess this sort of thought is a little sociopathic, i mean i think about how id go around killing zombies. this isnt a zombie story so much as it is a psychological discussion (albeit given my very limited understanding of psych. i hope forensic reads it, she might have something interesting to add on my depiction here)
i actually deleted a big chunk of the protagonist wigging out a little and spiralling a bit further into what might have been a bit of psychosis, but then i figured it was boring, so i shortened it a lot.
basically, this is supposed to be mildly humourous. the best bit is really the second paragraph/line, and it was always going to go downhill from there.

Hmmm...
Uh, well... I think you should have come up with a better title?
Dude.
This, eh... this wasn't all that spectacular. It wasn't BAD, I guess I just expected... more.
