I think the first time I noticed these things was when kids would bring them back from trips to Europe to put on their cars. Oh yes yes very nice, well I went on my senior class trip too - how very metropolitan you are.
Then not to be outdone, they started printing USA ones. I suppose that was to end the confusion that everyone has when they see a car on the road. Gosh could that car be from the US, Canada, or Mexico I just can't tell.
I'm not positive but I think it was the beach towns that picked it up from there. I know the first ones I saw were HH and OBX. Naturally all the universities had to get in on the act. Then all the states followed. Then political stickers and things like 26.2 started popping up. Now it is absolutely bat shit insane.
I see them for elementary schools, neighborhoods, airport codes, dog breeds, all kinds of sports, and the random ones that I don't know or care the meaning behind.

That is just stupid.
Ok the diver down one isn't bad but why put it on an oval? What is wrong with just a diver down flag sticker or what I have on my Jeep, a diver down flag in the outline of a shark? That's pretty cool isn't it?
I'll admit it I kind of like the double black diamond one but I real black diamond skier does not feel the need to flaunt it, we just assume we are better skiers than everyone around us and automatically look down on everyone else in the lift line.
Sad to say I have an OBX one but the O is a hurricane.

I fucking hate all the little metrosexual "look at me, damn you, I'm smart and OH SO CULTURAL" trends. This extends from the dumb motherfuckers who correct me on place names "Oh, down SOUTH they call it N'Orlins." to the stupid motherfuckers who try to get "back to their roots" in the most embaressing and clueless ways (the moron who came to my sister's wedding dressed in a leather miniskirt, claiming it was his clan's kilt). I think the simplest solution would be to ban metros from travel altogether, whether it be to the grocery store or Greece.

nothing screams douchebag louder than bullethole stickers on your car.
People look at your car, which has obviously just got out of a gang war with Al Capone, and stare in amazement that car could survive such an onslaught. Meanwhile, you chuckle to yourself, in the thought that you tricked yet another fool with your "oh-so-authentic" bullet hole stickers.

I usually like your stuff, Loki. But seeming as my sole income depends on the manufacture of thse oval stickers, I have to give you a -1.
The oval sticker is more than just a "decal" or "shit ball", it's in fact, a status symbol. How many cars do you see driving around with a rectangular "license plate" on the back? That's right, at least 23%. This gives people a way to express themselves nobody could have ever imagined... OVALS!
Ovals are pleasing to the mind, body, and spirit. Try this experiment... Look at a triangle and see how it makes you feel... then, look at an oval. Bingo. If you're anything like me, the triangle gave you a siezure and the oval made you sexually aroused.
So, don't be so quick to pass judgement, because you never know just what the things you see that you think you know about really do to people without them thinking about what they're doing to them without them even knowing to consider the many different ways these objects can affect their mind, body, and spirits in manners unknown to any textbook.

Those nationality indicators were mandatory in Europe before this was integrated in the actual license plates all over the European Union.
