Is it that important to think you somehow "belong" or are "significant" here? Do these two hinge all their bets on their Uber-popularity?
I mean, no personal offense to anybody here, I just don't get it. How many of you think that a group of strangers on the internet actually care about you? How many of you see the psychological damage those that must belong have suffered?
I don't want to go all Freud on you, but there is something seriously wrong when you actively pursue the approval and attention of complete strangers.
Like I said to Mr. Berg, you can pretend to be as altruistic as you want but when the chips are down, you will show your true colors. Everyone of us are assholes when online. It will remain that way until Microsoft releases my patented nose breaking device activated by the internet.
So, Uber, do you feel this need to belong or is that left for the emotionally troubled amongst us?

Mine were only $150. However, when I went to make my purchase I was set on another pair of MJs that were $350 - but the ones I ended up with were a superior fit and feel. Same lens of course. It was the cheapest pair of sunglasses I have purchased in over 10 years. I have worn MJs and Serengettis exclusively during that time.

That is the extent of our communication. There is no vocal inflection. No gestures, smiles, pitch change, wavering, volume fluctuations, etc.

I don't care what you say can be 'gleaned' from reading blocks of text, because it's 100% subjective (unless I post a video or something that leaves nothing to the imagination, etc.).
Subjectivity is the root of the argument here, it seems. For, as you might deduce something about how *I* communicate, someone else could get a totally different impression.
I guess my point is that reading someone else's textual submissions on a website brings you no closer to actually conversing with them than reading a letter they might send you (even in their own handwriting).

I don't get why people are still trying to claim that the internet is populated by people who aren't real. The society most of us live in allow us to do numerous things online which we couldn't have previously, from shopping to medical consultations to talking to people on the other side of the planet.
When you buy something online, your money actually leaves your bank account, and you actually receive goods or a service or a product, yes?
People online are manifesting something that they can conceive of, right? And because they can conceive of and manifest it, it could be argued that it's a part of them, right? I mean, a person who enjoys being an asshole online is at least in part an asshole, because the part of him/her that enjoys being an asshole is an asshole, right?
I am who I am, whether online or IRL. They judge others by their own standards, which from the off is their big mistake. My reaction is based on the specific interaction I have had with the assorted individuals who take the time to participate in this dysfunctional anti-social networking cesspool.
I think I'm rather likable - and the folks I get along well with on this site bring a giant smile to my face and I have enjoyed my interaction with them immeasurably both online and shitfaced in the pub.
I like being liked, and if that is wrong - I don't wanna be right.
This 'community' is unique - with its mix of fringe and well established personalities. There is a little something for everyone. If you want to be a part-time disruptive little dipshit that is your complete prerogative - just as much as it is well within your providence to be a legendary contributer of timeless awesome fiction and anything in-between.
It seems to me the author of this post just doesn't 'get it' - and is likely a rather lonely solitary individual - and while relatively happy with that self imposed social isolation still feels he is missing out on something. I think he chooses to make posts like this in order to satisfy his curiosity, while still attempting to exert some misguided sense of superiority.
Thing is - he's just a nerd. Like the rest of us... just a little more boring and, yes, insignificant.

Modern society forces us to keep a lid on our more basic instincts, but on the anonymous internet we give them free reign.
