Well it looks like the ignorami at home and abroad are using the Olympics as an excuse to slam George Bush and the USA, and I say fuck you.
If you want to shit on something shit on China. They make the USA look insignificant in everything from human rights abuses to trashing the environment.* Hell, even little girls aren't safe!
It has just been revealed that nine year-old cutie pie Lin Miaoke, who sang the Chinese national anthem (Ode to the Motherland) before nearly 100,000 spectators and a billion TV viewers at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, was lip-syncing (or sang unheard, depending on which version you believe) and the voice actually heard and broadcast was that of seven year old Yang Peiyi.
The Chief Music Director for the Olympics said of the switch, "The reason was for the national interest. The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feelings and expression. Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects. But in the aspect of voice, Yang Peiyi is flawless."

The US could eradicate all of its social problems and injustices but chooses not to and instead bicker about gay marriage and flag burning while carving up the Earth and feeling good about themselves since, after all, they do have Earth day. Americans are many many many MANY times more wasteful and environmentally damaging than the Chinese.

China doesn't have to present a plan to its people or get industry and big business and trade unions to agree on a deal or plan to reduce emissions (for example), thats why they do what they agree to because no one internaly is going to challenge it.

China is currently going through what can be compared to the industrial revolution that occurred everywhere else in the world damn near a century ago. By now, the rest of the world powers have gotten the whole save-the-environment idea and are taking steps to reduce pollution and implement sustainable practices. China is, frankly speaking, just too knew at this to know or fucking care what will happen. The smog in Beijing speaks for itself, but new railroads, cities, dams, and manufacturing plants are spreading like wildfire across their nation. I doubt they have an agency like our EPA and if they create one, people are making too much money right now to obey them.
