"The Democrats have put on a confident public face, with Obama recently saying he remained "proud of the choice I made."

But privately, Democratic insiders are said to be as nervous about Biden as Republicans are about Palin."

Wow. Just wow. Call me crazy, but I've always been of the belief that if you're running to lead a nation, you should at least have a partial grasp of its history. According to Joe FDR was president in 1929. He also seems to believe Americans had television decades sooner then most of us thought.

I'm not American, but the reality is we are heavily affected by America's success or failure, and this is shaping to a pretty scary election. The US needs an effective administration more then ever after 8 years of poorly thought out Bush policies, an absolute mess of a war in Iraq, and a current finiancial upset threatening the economic stability of an already taxed country.

However, the candidates seem less then up to the task. I'm not a huge fan of McCain or Obama, but the scariest thing is their very poor judgement in their VP running mates. Simply put, Palin and Biden are both dipshits. And the reality is, regardless of the outcome, there are relatively high odds compared to most administrations of a presidential fatality and a VP needing to be sworn in as PResident, making the selection mroe important then ever. If McCain gets elected, there's a reasonable chance of him expiring in office. And if Obama gets elected, there are going to be rascist nutjobs who are going to try to assasinate him. I shudder to think of the implications of President Biden, or even worse President Sarah Palin.

Filter his thoughts? What the fuck is that supposed to mean? It's okay that he thinks americans were lounging in their living rooms in 1929 watching FDR on TV, as long as he remembers to "filter his thoughts" and not say it aloud? Is it okay if McCain thinks theres gnomes and pixies frolicking in his basement as long as he filters his thoughts and says there's nothing but a hot water tank down there? You could say that when Bush uses a "bushism", he's just not filtering his thoughts sicne his intended meaing is fairly clear, he just words his idea incorrectly. But that's alot different, and besides it still doesn't change the fact that bush is an idiot.

There's the interesting concept out there called "Globalization". What happens in one country, especially an economic powerhouse like the US, tends to affect things elsewhere. I also practise this obscure money practise called "investing" by which my money is put into business ventures in diverse places including the US. I also have something they call a "job" and I work on an international level on projects around the globe. As such, yes, I take an interest in elections everywhere in the world, not just at home.

I tried to explain that short and simple, as I know that is already reaching the limits of your attention span and intellectual capacity.

The closer the election comes and the more the economy shakes, the more I suspect that the precious metals to invest in are not gold and silver and platinum, but steel and brass and lead.

Yup, a large part of my portfolio is in mining and oil. Steel has been skyrocketing for last 3 years. Platinum is still valid, it's actually more then just a precious metal and is used in manufacturing. Gold just took a big drop.
