I have long refused to be a part of the "Politically correct" movement that is sweeping the world. I do this not because I am insensitive to the thoughts and feeling of others, but rather because I am opposed to censorship in any form.
I sarcastically refer to it as political cowardice. Why you ask? Because you think something but are too afraid to say it for fear of being labeled insensitive.
Every time you stop and "Politically correct" yourself you commit a far worse offense than anything you might have said could. You lie to the people around you so that they will believe that you did not think whatever it is that you perceive would offend them. You thought it, and in certain company you'd have likely said it.
The teacher taught me in kindergarten that lying is bad, even lying by omission.
Today I learned that a video game was pulled off the shelves because a song in it contained two verses from the quran. The manufacturer doubtless wanted to be politically correct. If we are so afraid to quote some sacred scripture, then why do we have sacred scripture?
I thought the purpose of scripture was to be spread to as many people as could possibly hear it.
"And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppressions, and there prevail justice and Faith in Allah; but if they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression"
--The Quran
"Political correctness" however well intentioned is just another form of oppression. A small minority attempting to force their view on the reast of us through the guise of being nice.
In the end it is up to us to decide what we believe.
If you have something to say then say it because there is nothing correct about cowardice or oppression.
So the next time you think about "politically correcting" yourself and espousing a viewpoint that you clearly do not believe in, just ask yourself one question.
