Some of the more astute Uberers may notice the big "proof" in the middle of all the photos.
I can assure you it isn't some type of Halo effect that surrounds me and can only be captured by photos. I am considering buying all the photso they have of me, but the scabby goats at marathon photo charge $74 bucks for that.
It isn't the money, it is the principle. I would normally just keep pics that friends shot even though pictures taken after the amount of "cheering" (drinking in public) aren't normally too good, but this is my last marathon so I was thinking of getting better ones.
/Before you comments about the rip off $74 for pictures fo such anugly person is, please make sure it will be witty enoguh to provide a chuckle. It is a slow day at work today.

You say that now. But I know for a fact that men who wear head bands and no shirts tend to engage in repeat marathon behavior.
We shall see.

Yeah, I am happy.
In my first Marathon I just wanted to make sure I beat Oprah. This time I wanted to break 4:00 so I am very happy.
I am not going to do another one though, as good as it feels to run and finish a marathon, the training just takes up too much goddamn time.

I was talking to appallow - hence the whole 'mondohead' reference.
I know you probably saw the word 'cunt' and immediately thought it was you... I can appreciate the mistake as you likely get that a lot.
The 'revolution' is just as necessary as ever - the need for one sure hasn't decreased at all. my desire to talk about it with people like you in a forum like this has been successfully beaten out of me, however... so nice work on that tough guy.
As for the wife, kid and deliriously happy life - its all going quite swell. I assure you I can take a few moments out of my busy day to interact with disgruntled little nerds like you and still maintain my usual level of awesome.
In all fairness - congrats on the marathon.

Sounds great.
I am sure if I was busily self employeed with a new born I would go out of my way to argue with strangers on the internet. With all that excitement how is that interent revolution of yours going?
I don't work for oil companies. Haven't for almost four years. I got paid a boatload of money, paid off school, got a nice downpayment for a house, and got to travel to/live in places you will probably never see.
Now I am overpaid doing something completely different.

I give you credit for finishing. Although in that one picture, it looks like you are running with a group of autists.
I ran a couple of road races back in the 70's and 80's. I ran a 10k (or a 5k, I can't recall) in 1986 or 87 and I trained for it by smoking, eating a bowl of Franco American spaghetti the night before (I heard that "carbs" were good for endurance) ...and I wore my high-top Pony leather lacrosse sneakers.
I had shin splints for two months and have never done anything close to that again.

It was ok. I didn't really get quite what I'd wanted. Long story short, I showed up kind of late (was still about a half mile from the start when I heard the Howitzer). Thus, I ended up starting in the waaaay back. With the crowd as dense as it was, trying to maintain a pace significantly faster than the group was futile. After about two miles, I just resigned myself to going with the crowd and enjoying the run. Besides, what was I going to do, get mad at the slow people for lining up at the back?
-------------
My wife was busting my chops because we got to the start with about an hour to spare. We had to get up earlier, but I would rather have the time to walk around, loosen up, drop off my bag, take a shit etc than rush around right before it starts.
I forgot to add a picture of where it happened, but you know how when the race started runners were on both sides of the median, and on themedians they had big signs saying where each pace group should start? Well some guy who couldn't be assed out to jump the fence and shit in the woods or run back to the porto-potties, grabbed a discarded poncho off the ground, squatted in front of one of the signs and took a shit. I was cracking up, and my wife was disgusted. I think our reaction gave him some stage fright because he was crouched there a while.

Once in a while I think: "Man, I should try to run a marathon."
"Man, I really should get in better shape."
"Man, I need to do something new and different with my time."
"Man, I should exercise more."
Then I think: "Fuck that."
And light up a cigarette and down a pint of Smirnoff.

on topic: i'd like to run a marathon one day. i seem to top out at about 3 miles though which is a bit of a fail and a long stretch short of 26. i can swim farther though if that matters... do they do marathon swimming? i'll sign up for that.
how the fuck do you train for that without dying if you're not built for running? by not built for running i mean i have pretty short legs in relation to my body and i'm built like a russian beet farmer's wife.
-------------------------
The only long swims Iknow of are for triathalons, so you owuld end up running.
There is quite a mix of body types running marathons.
If you google "Hal Higdon" you will see a training program that are geared towards people who can only run 3 miles. It is 18 weeks long.
